Six individuals have been arrested in the gold theft case at the Sabarimala temple. The 2019 incident involving the missing gold from the guardian idols has once again sparked controversy. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) planning to question actor Jayaram as a witness has ignited discussions in the film industry as well.

The gold theft incident at the renowned Sabarimala Sri Ayyappa Temple in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, has once again become a major topic of debate. In 2019, the gold protective covers on the guardian idols (dwarapalakas) located in front of the temple's sanctum sanctorum were sent to Chennai for repairs. However, when they were returned to the temple, it was noticed that their weight had decreased. Allegations of gold being stolen surfaced.

This incident became a subject of intense discussion in the Kerala High Court and the state assembly. Opposition parties severely criticized the government and the Devaswom Board. Subsequently, following the High Court's directive, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, and the probe began from various angles.

In the investigation, Bengaluru-based businessman Unnikrishnan Potti was the first to be arrested and sent to jail. Although he had claimed to bear the repair costs, he now faces serious allegations of melting and selling the gold. It is also alleged that a thin layer of gold was reapplied afterward, and these artifacts were used for pujas in wealthy homes to collect money.

In this case, a total of six people, including former officials of the Sabarimala temple, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Amid this, the name of actor Jayaram, famous for the film Kantara, has surfaced in connection with the case, sparking a new controversy. It is reported that the SIT plans to summon him for questioning because he participated in a puja in Chennai in 2019 involving the guardian idols.

Regarding this, actor Jayaram has responded by saying, “I have been visiting Sabarimala for 50 years. In 2019, I was officially invited to the puja and participated accordingly. I never imagined that after five years, this would become an issue. If the truth comes out, I will be happy. Reports indicate that the SIT team is attempting to include actor Jayaram as a witness. This has once again created a massive stir in the Sabarimala gold theft case. The topic is also being discussed in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries.
