Digital Ration Card: How the ONORC Scheme Ensures Seamless Access Across India!?

As part of digital transformation, the ration card has now taken an online form, making it convenient to receive rations from fair price shops in any state of the country under the ONORC scheme.

As part of the nation's digital transformation journey, the traditional ration card has embraced an online format. This digital shift, implemented under the One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme, allows beneficiaries to collect their food entitlements from any Fair Price Shop (FPS) across the country.

The move towards a digital format enabled by mobile technology marks a significant step forward from the age of paperwork. The system, integrated with the Public Distribution System (PDS), ensures that citizens can easily access subsidized food grains, including rice, wheat, and sugar, using a mobile PDF or QR code.

The Benefits: Transparency and Portability

The primary goal behind introducing the digital ration card is twofold:

Enhance Transparency: The move aims to eliminate counterfeit cards and significantly increase accountability within the PDS, ensuring subsidies reach the intended beneficiaries. National Portability (ONORC): Once the digital card is obtained, beneficiaries can draw their entitled grains from any state’s Fair Price Shop, not just the one where their card was issued. This benefit is particularly crucial for migrant workers, who are often denied rations when they move to a different state for employment.

The application process for the digital ration card is facilitated through state-level apps or official websites. Key application methods include:
