Bengaluru: Police have arrested a man named Vijay Guruji for allegedly defrauding a tech employee of a massive ₹48 lakh on the pretext of providing cures and Ayurvedic medicine for sexual problems. The Gnana Bharathi police station also apprehended another accused who was assisting the 'Guruji' in this fraud case.
Fraud Network Set Up in a Roadside Tent
The accused, Vijay Guruji, used to set up a temporary tent by the roadside and sell Ayurvedic treatments and medicines. He attracted people by advertising solutions for knee pain, skin problems, and primarily sexual problems.
* Large-Scale Fraud: Guruji promised a person working in the tech sector that he would solve their sexual problems and defrauded them of ₹48 lakh in a phased manner. After receiving the money, he attempted to escape from the area.
* Complaint Filed: Following a complaint filed by the victim techie at the Gnana Bharathi police station, the police conducted an operation and arrested the 'Guruji'.
'Tent Baba's' Stories Exposed During Investigation
During the police investigation after the arrest, more information about the accused's fraud network came to light.
* Fraud in Multiple Locations: Vijay Guruji was found to have set up tents in several areas and cheated people by giving them fake Ayurvedic medicines.
* Small-Scale Frauds: The fraudster had cheated many people out of small sums like one thousand, five thousand, or ten thousand rupees. Since the victims feared that filing a complaint about these issues would tarnish their reputation, no one had previously complained to the police.
* Deceiving People with Herbs and Powders: It was discovered that he was deceiving people by giving them certain herbs and powder-like substances, claiming them to be medicine for knee pain or other ailments.
The 'Guruji' exploited the nature of these issues, which often go unreported publicly, as his main capital and used it to defraud the techie of the large amount. The police have currently arrested Vijay Guruji and the other accused who was collaborating with him, and are conducting further interrogation.
