In a recent conversation on Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath’s popular podcast ‘People by WTF’, global entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk shared a striking prediction about the future impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking about the rapid evolution of AI, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO said that a time may soon come when human beings may not need to work at all.
AI Could Make Work Optional in the Future
Musk noted that AI is rapidly expanding across every sector, transforming industries at an unprecedented pace. Because of this massive technological shift, he believes that in the next 10 to 20 years, jobs as we know them today may become optional.
“AI is progressing so fast that the future might reach a point where working becomes a choice rather than a necessity,” Musk said during the discussion with Nikhil Kamath. He suggested that society is heading toward a stage where human labor is no longer a requirement for most tasks.
A Radical Shift in Human Lifestyle
Reflecting humorously on how life might look in an AI-driven future, Musk said people might spend their time growing vegetables in their own backyard or doing simple personal chores like shopping, as machines and AI systems handle most major responsibilities.
He even joked that humans may end up following a weekly schedule of “seven days of intense sleep” and repetitive cycles of routine tasks implying that AI could free people from the pressures of daily work, leading to a completely different lifestyle. Musk’s forecast highlights a dramatic shift in the global workforce landscape. As AI continues to grow more capable, tasks across industries from manufacturing and logistics to creative and analytical roles could increasingly be handled by intelligent systems.
His remarks add to the ongoing debate about the future of employment, universal basic income, and how humans will redefine productivity in an AI-dominated world. Also Read: Effective Reading Techniques for Students: Here’s What You Need to Know!
