AVM Saravanan, senior producer of one of India’s oldest and most respected film production companies, AVM Productions, is no more. He breathed his last at 86, and the film world sees this as an immense loss.
AVM was founded in 1943 by AV Meiyappan, and even the first hero film of Kannada cinema’s evergreen legend Dr. Rajkumar, Bedara Kannappa, was produced by this very banner. Superstar Rajinikanth, who attended Saravanan’s final rites, became emotional and said, “His support was a major reason behind my success. He held my hand during my struggling days. Losing him is a personal loss for me.”
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also expressed condolences, recalling the many years of close family ties between his family and the AVM family, and stated that Saravanan’s demise is a great loss to Tamil cinema.
