MADHYA PRADESH: The number of cases of attempted suicide due to failed love affairs has been increasing significantly in recent days. Similarly, a cinematic incident took place in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, where a 19-year-old youth, heartbroken after his girlfriend refused to marry him, attempted suicide by climbing a high-voltage electricity tower. The video of this incident has gone viral on social media.
Why Did He Climb the Tower?
The incident occurred on December 3 in Nimhiha village, under the limits of Devoland police station in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh. The youth, identified as Santosh Saket (19), was heartbroken after his girlfriend recently began neglecting him and insisted on a breakup. When she also stopped receiving his calls, he decided to attempt suicide by climbing the 33 kV power tower. According to the information, Santosh was distraught because the girl's family had rejected his marriage proposal. Fearing the loss of his love, he took this extreme step.
Police's 'Sholay' Style Rescue
When the youth climbed the tower, local residents and Devoland police tried to persuade him to climb down, but Santosh remained adamant. That's when the police took a clever step.The police asked a woman constable to impersonate his girlfriend and speak to him on the phone. The woman constable spoke in the voice of his girlfriend and promised Santosh, "I am ready to marry you." Only after hearing this did Santosh agree to come down safely.
