Mangaluru: Cybercrime Surge - Officials Alarmed as Educated Citizens Fall Prey Despite Awareness Efforts - Report

People are distressed by the cybercrime cases coming to light every day. Reports indicate that a large number of well-educated individuals are falling victim to financial fraud.

Cybercrime cases are emerging daily across the city, leaving the public distraught, with millions of rupees being defrauded. A recent report reveals a particularly alarming trend: the majority of victims in these cyber fraud incidents are surprisingly well-educated individuals.

The Alarming Trend

Police officials have voiced serious concern over the statistics, noting that the rate at which the educated are falling victim to cyber fraud now surpasses that of the illiterate.

This increase in cases, despite continuous efforts to raise public awareness, has become a major point of worry for law enforcement. The public is urged to develop a stronger sense of digital vigilance.

Data Leakage and Fraud Mechanisms

Cyber experts indicate that sensitive personal information is increasingly being leaked and falling into the hands of fraudsters. This leaked information includes:

Aadhaar details and associated mobile numbers.

Biometric data, specifically fingerprint information.

In addition to phishing and social engineering, experts note that fraud is sometimes carried out through direct data hacking. Geekria Headband Pad Compatible with Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen2/ Gen2 MAX Headphones, Head Top Cushion Cover Repair Part (Black)

The Police Commissioner has issued specific warnings to the public:

  • Ignore all calls regarding verification of sensitive documents like Aadhaar or fingerprint details.

  • Do not respond to calls or messages that are ambiguous or lack clear authenticity.

The core message remains that the public must proactively develop a heightened state of awareness and digital caution to protect themselves from these increasingly sophisticated cybercriminals. Also Read: Tech Junk: Watch out for Gen Z kids' online gaming addiction!
