Bengaluru: The influence of social media in recent times is such that people are falling into trouble by believing everything they see. Over 50 women, attracted by Instagram Reels, have collectively lost lakhs of rupees and are now struggling. The huge network of fraud carried out in the name of boutique training has now been exposed.

What is the Case?

A woman named Balabommu Sunada, originally from Andhra Pradesh, was running an establishment called 'Devansh Designer and Boutique' near Sai Tower in Vidyaranyapura, Bengaluru. She advertised on Instagram, claiming to be an international designer and promising to offer boutique training to women. Many women, including those from Mysuru, Belagavi, and Mangaluru, enrolled in the classes after watching videos featuring prominent Reels star Madhugowda and other influencers.

The Tactics of Extortion:

The fee structure she had set for the training is shocking:

* Morning Batch (2 hours): ₹25,000

* Weekend Class: ₹60,000

* Full-Time Training: ₹75,000 to ₹1,00,000

Notably, she would only accept ₹5,000 via PhonePe. She insisted that the rest of the hefty amount must be paid only in cash. This is suspected to be a tactic to evade the tax department and the police.

The True Colours Exposed in a Week!

Sunada, who extorted money promising a six-month course, would instruct the women to stitch blouses within just two days of training. Moreover, she would allegedly harass them, forcing them to record Reels and give positive reviews about the boutique. When asked to provide proper training, she would abuse and threaten the women. There are serious allegations that she showed anti-Kannada sentiment, telling the local women who came for training, "I will not speak in Kannada with you."

Victims Approach the Police Station

A complaint has now been filed at the Vidyaranyapura Police Station against the woman for defrauding individuals of ₹60,000 to ₹1 lakh each, failing to provide training, and refusing to refund the money. Despite already having two or three cases against her, Sunada allegedly continued the scam without any concern, say the angry victims. This incident serves as a stark reminder that one must think twice before trusting flashy advertisements seen on social media.
