The Government of India has issued a high-level advisory to all its employees, strictly prohibiting the use of AI platforms, ChatGPT for handling official documents. The directive comes amid growing concerns that sensitive government data and national secrets could be leaked through these third-party platforms.

The primary concern is that AI tools store and process user inputs on external servers often hosted outside India to improve their learning models, which could potentially expose internal government deliberations to foreign entities.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, elaborated on the risks. He emphasized that while technology is an enabler, the "unfiltered" use of AI by officials poses a significant threat to data sovereignty.
