The Secretary of the State Election Commission, Dr. Nagaraj, has clarified that the Commission has conducted a survey regarding the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Meanwhile, the second phase of the SIR process is also in the news.

The Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) has officially denied reports of conducting any survey regarding public confidence in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Dr. Nagaraja, Secretary of the State Election Commission, issued a formal press clarification on January 8, 2026, following a wave of media reports claiming high levels of trust in the voting technology.

EVM Trust Survey: Commission Disclaims Involvement

Recent media reports claimed that a survey conducted by the Karnataka SEC showed that nearly 83% to 85% of the state's population expressed total confidence in EVMs. However, Dr. Nagaraja emphasized that the State Election Commission has not undertaken any such survey.

SIR Phase 2: Massive Voter Roll Purge Across 12 Regions

Parallel to the EVM controversy, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has released explosive data regarding the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The nationwide "cleanup" drive across nine states and three union territories has resulted in the deletion of a staggering 6.5 crore voters from the draft lists. The report said that the number of voters has decreased from 50.90 crore voters before the process to 44.40 crore voters.
