Mumbai: In an exclusive interview with a regional channel, Uddhav Thackeray sharply criticized the BJP's political policies. He accused the BJP of eroding the political culture of Maharashtra.
BJP’s "Opportunistic Politics"
Power is the Goal: "The BJP is not a Hindutva party; it is a party obsessed with power. Opportunism is in their DNA. To stay in power, they are ready to align with anyone—even goons," Thackeray lashed out.
Amoeba Comparison: He compared the BJP's expansionist policy to an "amoeba," mocking that the BJP is attempting to consume everything that comes in its path.
BJP's "Love Jihad": He labeled the alliance between the BJP and AIMIM in the Akot Municipal Council as "BJP's Love Jihad." He also quipped, "BJP ministers consume beef, yet they lecture us on Hindutva."
Mumbai and Marathi Identity
Uddhav Thackeray took a firm stand regarding the post of Mayor for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC):
Marathi Mayor: "There is no doubt in our minds—the Mayor of Mumbai city will be a Marathi person," he declared.
Linguistic Imposition: Accusing the BJP of trying to impose Hindi or other languages on Mumbai, he questioned, "Who are they to decide that the language of Ghatkopar is Gujarati?"Allegations of Harassment: Over the last two to three years, bullying and threats against Marathi people have started in Mumbai. Marathi people are being denied housing and their food habits are being criticized. He roared that the BJP's arrogance has grown because of their "bosses" sitting in Delhi.
Destruction of Political Culture
Expressing concern over the political culture of Maharashtra, Thackeray remarked, "There was a time when a thief would run away if called a 'thief.' But today, thieves proudly proclaim their identity. The BJP has completely defaced the civil politics of Maharashtra." Furthermore, he made serious allegations that the current Maharashtra government has saddled Mumbai with a debt of ₹3 lakh crore and is looting the city's resources.
