Protests Flare in Iran: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Warns 'Arrogant' Trump

Amidst intensifying anti-government protests in Iran, the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has finally broken his silence.

Amidst intensifying anti-government protests in Iran, the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has finally broken his silence. Launching a sharp attack on US President Donald Trump, he issued a warning citing examples of historical dictators.

What was Khamenei’s Warning?

In a post on his 'X' account, Khamenei lashed out: "The President of the United States, who judges the entire world with arrogance, should know this. Arrogant leaders in history like Pharaoh, Nimrod, and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi met their downfall at the very moment their pride was at its peak. Donald Trump, too, will fall in the same way."

What is the Current Situation in Iran?

14 Days of Protest: Massive protests have been occurring across Iran for the last 14 days, driven by the economic crisis and opposition to government policies. Warning of Harsh Action: The Iranian government, which initially called protesters "rioters," is now labeling them "terrorists." The Attorney General has warned that those participating in protests will be treated as "enemies of God," a charge that carries the death penalty.

Casualties: According to reports from human rights organizations, at least 72 people have died, and more than 2,300 individuals have been detained so far.

What Triggered the Protests?

Inflation and Currency Collapse: Protests began on December 28 due to economic grievances. The Iranian currency, the 'Rial,' has seen a massive plunge, reaching 1.4 million against one US Dollar.

International Sanctions: Economic conditions worsened by international sanctions have forced people to take to the streets.

Support from Trump and Pahlavi:

The United States is backing these protests. Donald Trump stated that a "renewed push for freedom" is witnessing in Iran. Meanwhile, Reza Pahlavi, the former Crown Prince of Iran who has been in exile for decades, also praised the protests and called on the world to support the voice of the Iranian people.
