In an age where digital connectivity is considered as essential as oxygen, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA), Ajit Doval, has made a startling revelation. The man often referred to as India’s "Spymaster" recently disclosed that he consciously stays away from smartphones and the internet, sparking a widespread debate on digital security and personal privacy.
The ‘Offline’ Revelation at Viksit Bharat Summit
Addressing young leaders at the 'Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026' at Bharat Mandapam, Doval surprised the audience by stating his detachment from modern gadgets.
"I do not use a mobile phone or the internet," Doval said during an interactive session. He clarified that while he might use a phone for strictly personal family matters or high-level international emergencies, he has largely abandoned the digital grid for his professional and daily life.
The Logic: Security Over Convenience
Having spent decades in the Intelligence Bureau and witnessing the evolution of cyber warfare firsthand, Doval’s choice is rooted in tactical caution.
Cyber Vulnerabilities: As a high-profile target, Doval is acutely aware of the risks of Pegasus-style spyware, hacking, and unauthorized surveillance.
Alternative Communication: When asked how he functions without these tools, Doval hinted at a sophisticated, secure infrastructure. "There are many other means of communication that the general public might not be aware of. We use secure, encrypted channels that don't rely on the open internet," he explained. Bold Views on Global Conflicts
Beyond his personal habits, Doval also addressed the current geopolitical climate. He attributed the ongoing global wars to the "expansionist mindsets" of certain nations. "The root cause of many modern conflicts is the attempt by some countries to impose their will and ideology on others," he remarked, emphasizing that India’s strength lies in its strategic autonomy and silent performance.
A Lesson for the Youth
Doval’s "silent operator" approach serves as a powerful message to a generation obsessed with social media validation. He urged the youth to focus on performance over propaganda. "Your work should speak louder than any digital post. Silent, consistent effort is the bedrock of national security," he concluded.
