The ongoing discussions within the Karnataka BJP regarding a change in the state president have now come to an end. According to sources, the party high command has decided to continue with B.Y. Vijayendra in the position of Karnataka BJP State President until the 2028 Assembly elections.

While changes are underway at the national level with J.P. Nadda's term as national president concluding and Nitin Nabin set to be formally elected as the new BJP National President on January 20, 2026 the high command has prioritized stability in Karnataka. This comes amid reports of internal debates and factional differences over Vijayendra's leadership. Despite criticisms from a section of leaders, including allegations of dynastic politics led by MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and others, as well as complaints about not consulting senior leaders sufficiently, the high command has expressed confidence in Vijayendra's organizational abilities.

Recent disciplinary actions such as the expulsion of leaders like Yatnal, S.T. Somasekhar, and Shivarama Hebbar based on the disciplinary committee's recommendations have subdued dissenting voices to some extent. Also Read: 2026: Massive Election Surge in Karnataka and Four Other States..!

Central Minister V. Somanna and several others had reportedly eyed the state president post, but the leadership has backed Vijayendra, viewing his tenure as crucial for strengthening the organization ahead of the 2028 polls.

This decision strengthens Vijayendra's position and serves as a setback for the rebel faction or those anticipating a leadership change. Also Read: SC Ultimatum for Karnataka Polls: A Litmus Test for the Congress Government!?
