These three accused, who were in judicial custody, were receiving home-cooked food once a week. Challenging this order, the jail authorities approached the High Court.
During the hearing, the government pleader drew the court's attention to the Supreme Court's directive that no accused should be given special facilities. It was informed that good quality food is already being provided to all prisoners in jail.
After hearing the arguments, the bench headed by Justice Nagaprasanna stated that everyone is equal before the law and cancelled the permission for home-cooked food. As a result, the special facility that the accused had been receiving has been completely withdrawn.
