GBA Elections 2026: Karnataka SEC Sets Timeline for High-Stakes Bengaluru Polls; Final Voter List by March 16!?

The Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Monday that the civic polls for India’s tech hub will be conducted between May 25 and June 30, 2026.

The long-awaited elections for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) have finally received a definitive timeline. The Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Monday that the civic polls for India’s tech hub will be conducted between May 25 and June 30, 2026.

This announcement ends months of speculation regarding the first-ever elections for the newly formed GBA, which replaced the BBMP model to provide a more decentralized governance structure for the city.

The Election Roadmap

State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi, while briefing the media, detailed the rigorous schedule leading up to the polls. The commission has used October 1, 2025, as the qualifying date for the preparation of the draft electoral rolls.

Key Dates to Remember:

January 19 – February 3: Window for citizens to file claims, corrections, or objections to the draft voter list.

February 4 – February 18: Period for verification and disposal of filed objections by officials.

March 16: Publication of the Final Voter List.

May 25 – June 30: Polling window for the GBA elections.

Door-to-Door Verification

To ensure the highest level of accuracy and prevent "vote theft" allegations, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been directed to conduct physical home visits. Commissioner Sangreshi urged citizens to cooperate with the officials to ensure their names are correctly reflected in the database.

"Our goal is a transparent and inclusive election. Between now and February 3, every eligible resident of Bengaluru has the opportunity to ensure their democratic right is secured," the Commissioner stated. iQOO Z10 5G (Silver, 8GB RAM, 128GB Stroage) | India's Biggest Ever 7300 mAh Battery | Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Processor | Brightest Quad Curved AMOLED Display in The Segment

With the final voter list coming out on March 16, the political machinery in Karnataka is expected to shift into high gear. The GBA elections are being viewed as a "litmus test" for the ruling Congress government and the opposition BJP-JD(S) alliance ahead of the latter half of the decade.
