Bengaluru: Attention vehicle owners in the Silicon City! If you have a habit of parking your car or bike randomly on the roadside, it is time to change. The State Government and BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) are gearing up to deploy a new strategy to streamline the city's parking system. From next week, the official 'Pay and Park' system will be implemented in Bengaluru. Parking haphazardly will now lead to heavy penalties.
What is this new Parking System?
To control traffic congestion in the city, the Palike has identified specific roads for parking. If you park your vehicle in these designated spots, you will be charged on an hourly basis.
Parking Fee Structure:
Cars: ₹30 per hour.
Bikes: ₹15 per hour.
Towing Terror: How much is the Fine?
If you park on roads not identified by the Palike or in 'No-Parking' zones, BBMP towing vehicles will lift your vehicle. This time, the penalty is expected to be quite steep.
Car Towing: ₹1,000 towing fine + separate Traffic Police fine.
Bike Towing: ₹500 towing fine + separate Traffic Police fine.
Note: It is mandatory to pay the traffic police fine in addition to the towing charges. This means the total penalty amount will be a significant blow to your pocket.
When and where will it be implemented?
Phase 1: These rules will be strictly enforced starting next week within the Bengaluru North Palike limits.
Full Rollout: The new pay-parking system will be active across the entire city of Bengaluru by the end of January.
The five zones of the Palike have already completed the process of identifying roads suitable for parking. The days of free roadside parking are over; if Bengaluru residents do not follow parking discipline, a "Fine Guarantee" is certain!
