Insult to Governor and Constitution by Congress: R. Ashoka Expresses Outrage

The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, R. Ashoka, has severely criticized the conduct of the state Congress government.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, R. Ashoka, has severely criticized the conduct of the state Congress government. Terming the day of the special session as a 'Black Day,' he lashed out, stating that the attempted assault on the Governor is anti-democratic.

Major Allegations:

Hooliganism: Ashoka stated that the Governor acts as a bridge between the State and the Central government. However, he alleged that Congress MLAs displayed hooliganism by pushing and obstructing the Governor.

Violation of Rules: According to Section 27 on page 13 of the House Rules, disrupting the Governor’s address is considered a severe violation. Ashoka demanded that the guilty members be expelled from the House.

Attack on H.K. Patil: He slammed Law Minister H.K. Patil, stating that it is shameful for a senior member to set such a bad precedent. He remarked that Patil lacks the merit to continue in his ministerial post for even a moment. R. Ashoka has written an official letter to Speaker U.T. Khader, demanding immediate disciplinary action against the members who showed disrespect to the Governor.

House Used for Hate Politics: B.Y. Vijayendra’s Criticism

BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra alleged that the state government is using the assembly session to play "hate politics" against the Central government to hide its own failures.

Vijayendra remarked that the Congress government is "murdering democracy" and moving towards damaging the federal structure of the country. He alleged that the Siddaramaiah-led government is conspiring to incite the public against the reforms brought by the Center in the MGNREGA scheme. He claimed they tried unsuccessfully to use the Governor to spread this misinformation. "Do not be arrogant because of the 140-MLA majority. If the welfare of the people is forgotten, the day is not far when the Congress will drop from 140 seats to 40," Vijayendra warned.

What is Rule 27?

According to Articles 175 or 176 of the Constitution, when the Governor addresses the Legislature, no member is allowed to obstruct the speech or raise a point of order. Doing so is considered a violation of the House’s orders.
