Actor Vijay’s TVK party informed the Election Commission of its intention to contest all 234 Assembly constituencies under a single common symbol. After considering the request, the Commission approved the whistle as the party’s official election symbol.
TVK had submitted several options for its party symbol, including a whistle, auto-rickshaw, cricket bat, Champions Trophy, and microphone. Among these, the whistle was finalized. Political observers believe that this symbol will strengthen the party’s identity and branding among voters.Arayna Women's Cotton Printed Floral Straight Kurta with Palazzo Pants and Dupatta
Traditionally, the whistle symbol has been largely associated with independent candidates. It has also been a familiar symbol in local body elections and Assembly elections. Politically, the whistle has often been used as a symbol of warning, protest, and public awareness.
In 2009, former IAS officer Jayaprakash Narayan used the whistle symbol while launching the Lok Satta Party. Before formally entering electoral politics, the Aam Aadmi Party had also used the whistle as a symbol of protest. In Tamil Nadu, during the 2016 Assembly elections, the whistle symbol was allotted to the Gandhian People’s Movement led by Tamil Aruvi Manian, which later merged with TVK.Actress Kavya Gowda House Dispute: Allegations of Assault and Threats | Is Property the Root Cause of the Family Feud?
Adding to this connection, actor and Vijay’s close associate Mayilsamy contested the 2021 Assembly elections from the Virugambakkam constituency as an independent candidate and was allotted the whistle symbol. Against this backdrop, TVK receiving the whistle symbol is being seen as a significant and attention-grabbing development ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
