In Hinduism, every day of the week is dedicated to a specific deity. Among these, worshipping Lord Hanuman (Anjaneya) on Saturdays is believed to be extremely auspicious and fruitful. Although Saturday is traditionally known as the favorite day of Shani Dev (Saturn), it holds a very special significance for devotees of Hanuman.
The Connection Between Saturday and Lord Hanuman
According to the Puranas, there is a unique agreement between Shani Dev and Lord Hanuman. The background of this connection is as follows:
Humbled Arrogance of Shani Dev: Once, Shani Dev, arrogant about his influence, tried to cast his shadow over Hanuman. In response, Hanuman tied Shani Dev in his tail and held him firmly. Unable to bear the agonizing pressure, Shani Dev eventually apologized and sought Hanuman’s mercy.
The Boon Granted by Shani: Humbled by Hanuman’s immense power, Shani Dev granted a boon: "I will never trouble or cause suffering to anyone who worships you with true devotion on Saturdays." Since then, the tradition of worshipping Hanuman on Saturdays to mitigate Shani Dosha began.
Rescue from Ravana’s Captivity: According to another legend, when Ravana had imprisoned Shani Dev, it was Hanuman who rescued him during the burning of Lanka (Lanka Dahan). In gratitude, Shani Dev promised to always shower grace upon Hanuman’s devotees.
Benefits of Worshipping Lord Hanuman on Saturday:
Remedy for Shani Dosha: For those going through the influence of Sade Sati (seven-and-a-half years of Shani) or Ashtama Shani, worshipping Hanuman on Saturday significantly reduces hardships.
Removal of Fear and Anxiety: Hanuman is the symbol of courage. Chanting the Hanuman Chalisa dispels fear from the mind and boosts self-confidence.
Destruction of Negative Energies: Saturday worship is highly effective in driving away evil thoughts and negative energies from both the home and the mind.
