Hate Speech Bill Halted: C.T. Ravi Lashes Out at State Government; Demands Withdrawal!

The 'Hate Speech Prevention Bill' introduced by the Congress government in the state has now become a major flashpoint for political conflict.

Bengaluru: The 'Hate Speech Prevention Bill' introduced by the Congress government in the state has now become a major flashpoint for political conflict. Welcoming the Governor's decision to refer the bill to the President of India, senior BJP leader C.T. Ravi has launched a scathing attack on the state government.

Here are the key points expressed by C.T. Ravi in his social media post:

1. A Conspiracy to Suppress Dissent?

Ravi alleged that this bill introduced by the Congress government is driven purely by political malice. He stated that its primary objective is to suppress voices of opposition and dissent against the government. He reminded that the BJP had previously warned that this is a completely 'anti-democratic bill.'

2. A Bill Riddled with Confusion

The BJP leader pointed out that there is confusion at every step of this bill. He questioned the very definition of 'Hate Speech,' stating that the government itself lacks a clear answer on what constitutes it. Ravi expressed concern that this ambiguity creates a dangerous environment where speaking the truth could be treated as a crime in Karnataka.

3. Praise for the Governor’s Action

Acknowledging the flaws in the bill and the potential threat to democracy, the Honorable Governor, Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot, has referred the bill to the President for consideration. C.T. Ravi noted that the Governor has provided valid justifications for this move.

4. Demand for Withdrawal

Ravi urged the state government to wake up at least now. He demanded that the government provide a proper clarification regarding the bill and immediately withdraw this 'anti-people' legislation.

"There was every risk that speaking the truth would become a crime in Karnataka. The Governor’s decision to refer such an anti-democratic bill to the President is a correct and necessary step."
