BENGALURU: Following a rise in stray dog menaces and attacks on the public in the Silicon City, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has implemented strict new regulations for dog lovers. From now on, feeding stray dogs on roads, pavements, or any random public spaces in the city is prohibited.
Why the New GBA Regulation?
There has been constant friction between animal lovers and the general public regarding the feeding of stray dogs. Additionally, dogs gathering in groups for food has been causing significant inconvenience to pedestrians. To streamline feeding and ensure public safety, the GBA has taken this major decision.
450 Official Feeding Centers Established
The GBA has identified a total of 450 official feeding centers across the city specifically for feeding dogs. Feeding will only be permitted at these designated locations.
Zonal Breakdown of Feeding Centers:
Corporation Zone | Number of Feeding Centers
Bengaluru East | 150
Bengaluru Central | 90
Bengaluru West | 85
Bengaluru North | 70
Bengaluru South | 55
Key Points for Dog Lovers to Note:
Identification of Spots: The GBA will install special signboards at the official locations designated for feeding.
Risk of Fines: It is now certain that fines will be imposed on anyone found feeding dogs on roadsides or footpaths outside of the official centers.
Mandatory Cleanliness: Those who feed the dogs must take responsibility for keeping that specific area clean.
Timing Restrictions: Instructions have been issued to feed the animals only during hours when public crowding is minimal.
Experts believe that since dogs are territorial in nature, designating specific feeding spots can help reduce instances of attacks. The GBA will take strict action if rules are violated in areas that cause distress to the general public.
