Haveri: An incident involving an attempt at forced conversion to Christianity has come to light in Izarilakamapura, the district headquarters. Following a complaint filed by a woman named Hanumavva Bandivaddar, a case has been registered against a total of 20 people at the Haveri City Police Station.
What is in the Complaint?
In her complaint, Hanumavva Bandivaddar detailed the aggressive behavior of those attempting the conversion:
Pressure on the Family: "The accused have been constantly localizing and pressuring our entire family to leave Hinduism and embrace Christianity."
Derogatory Remarks Against Hinduism: It is alleged that the accused made insulting statements about the religion, reportedly saying, "Your Hindu religion treats you like animals; leave it and join our faith."
Allurements and Threats: Hanumavva mentioned in the complaint that they were lured with money to convert. She further alleged that they were issued life threats, with the accused saying, "If you do not agree, we will not leave you alive."
Case Against 20 Individuals:
The police have registered an FIR against a total of 20 people in connection with this incident, including Basavaraj Hallikeri, Hanumantappa Hallikeri, Somakka, Anusuya, and Lakshmi.
Outrage from Hindu Activists:
Upon hearing about the incident, Hindu activists rushed to the aid of Hanumavva’s family and expressed fierce outrage against those allegedly forcing the conversion. They have urged the police to take strict action to ensure such illegal activities do not occur in the district. Currently, the Haveri City Police have taken up the investigation and are on the lookout for the accused.
