Chikkodi: The demon of dowry has claimed yet another life. In Alakhanura village of Raybag taluk, Belagavi district, a seven-month pregnant woman has died under suspicious circumstances. Her parents have leveled serious allegations, claiming it to be a case of cold-blooded murder.

1. Deepa Falls Victim to Dowry Harassment

The victim has been identified as Deepa Magadumma, a resident of Alakhanura village. Being seven months pregnant, her sudden death has raised several eyebrows and led to intense suspicion. Her family members from her paternal home have accused her husband and father-in-law of conspiring to kill her.

2. Husband Allegedly Harassed Her for Money and Gold

Deepa's husband, Abhishek, is said to have been constantly harassing her for dowry. Her parents alleged that he subjected her to both mental and physical torture, repeatedly demanding, "Bring more gold and money from your parents' house." Deepa’s father, mother, and brother expressed their outrage, stating that after a quarrel over this issue, she was killed without any mercy for her pregnancy.

3. Husband and Father-in-Law in Police Custody

Upon receiving news of the incident, the police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Based on the complaint filed by the parents, the police have taken Deepa’s husband, Abhishek, and his father into custody for questioning.

4. Case Registered

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Raybag Police Station, where a case has been officially registered and an investigation is underway. Authorities have stated that it will be confirmed whether this was a suicide or a murder only after the post-mortem report is released.
