Major fire broke out in an ICU facility in Odisha Government undertaken SCB Medical Collage and Hospital in Cuttack

The tragedy happened at the wee hours of Monday, killing 10 people in spot, injuring 11 staff while rescuing the patients.

The fire broke around 2.30 AM in the ICU facility, in the trauma care department, where only critically ill patients were treated. The Fire service workers rushed to the Hospital and launched the rescue operation and doused the fire.

The collective and instant effort of the Fire brigade helped by Hospital staff and patient’s attendants and some patients rescued the fire victims to the other rooms and safer zones of the State run SCB Hospital.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling did visit and review the tragic situation. They also visited other patients who are under different treatment in the hospital.

Interacting with the media the CM said short-circuit might be the cause of fire eruption. The fire affected Trauma Care ICU the adjacent ICI and other wards.

The CM said 23 patients are shifted to the other departments, 7 serious patients died while shifting to other wards and ICUs. 3 more people died later. The Cm has urged the Hospital staff for the proper treatment of the patients.
