Koppal: Residents of Hosalli village in the district are undergoing immense suffering due to toxic gases and acid-laced air emitted by the Coromandel International Private Limited factory. Despite a High Court order to relocate the factory, the district administration’s continued silence has sparked widespread public outrage.
Severe Health Impacts
The toxic emissions from the factory are reportedly causing various fatal diseases among the villagers. Local leaders Kishore and Sanjay have detailed the severe health crisis in the village, noting that residents are suffering from:
Constant eye irritation and skin diseases.
Asthma, chronic cough, and severe respiratory distress.
Deadly diseases like cancer and instances of physical disability among children.
Is the High Court Order Being Ignored?
Villagers have been fighting a relentless battle since 2017 for the relocation of the factory. Based on a 2020 survey report, the High Court had issued a clear directive to shift the factory to a different location. However, villagers have leveled serious allegations against the district administration, claiming it has shown utter apathy in implementing the court’s order.
Appeal to the Pollution Control Board Chairman
This critical issue has now been brought to the attention of the State Pollution Control Board Chairman, Narendra Swamy. A delegation led by Kishore and Sanjay met the Chairman and submitted a formal memorandum demanding the immediate relocation of the factory. They provided a detailed explanation regarding the environmental pollution and the devastating impact on public health caused by the plant.
Outrage Against District Administration
"The district administration does not seem to care despite the court order. Due to the negligence of officials, we are fighting for our lives every single day," the villagers expressed angrily. Residents are now demanding that the government intervene immediately to liberate Hosalli village from this toxic environment.
