Missing person's cases, March, 17th, 2026, The Karnataka High Court has urged for more intensive Interstate coordination to track the missing people.

The Karnataka High Court stressed for the need for the better and intensive coordination between the cops of the different States. Interstate dependency is inevitable as the territories does not limit the crime, missing people might have been moved to different states, in which case the joint operation between two states is essential.

Justice Suraj Govindraj made the observation hearing the writ petition of a person whose cousin has gone missing from 2020. Not able to trace the victim, the police probing from ever since recently categorized the case as “Dormant” recently. The petitioner approached the Court of law to restart the investigation.

Examining the case court observed in most of the missing cases the victim might have been transported to other state. This makes the police to have a better interstate coordination.

During the hearing Jusice Suraj Govidraj mentioned the recent effort to attend the missing people’s complaint in January 2026. It formed the new department, “District Missing Person’s Unit” in every district.

These units are specialized in missing person’s cases and the division will have more intensive coordination with other districts.

The court also said these units are centralized for the better investigation and to solve the cases of missing people.

The court also observed usually these cases are time consuming, and what we need is the national-level networking of police to solve these cases.
