Mysuru: G.T. Devegowda (GTD), the influential leader of the Chamundeshwari constituency and sitting MLA, has played a new political card before his voters regarding his future. GTD, who had been distanced from JD(S) party activities for some time, has now raised eyebrows by declaring, "I am in the JD(S) and I will contest from the same party in the next election."
No Question of Leaving JD(S)!
Speaking at an event in Jayapura village of Mysuru taluk, he said, "There is no question of me leaving the JD(S). However, if the party denies me a ticket, I will abide by whatever you, my voters, decide. If you ask me to file my nomination anyway, I certainly will," he stated emotionally.
Resentment Against Those He Helped Grow
Reflecting on the ups and downs of his political career, GTD took a swipe at his detractors. "Common people, without any greed or lure, have made me win. But those whom I helped grow and those who made money because of me are now standing against me. This is not new; it has been happening for a long time. Your love and blessings are my only God," he remarked.
GTD’s Move Sparks Curiosity
G.T. Devegowda’s statement has sparked intense debate in political circles for several key reasons:
Absence from Meetings: For several months, GTD has been missing from all major JD(S) meetings and events.
Neglect by High Command: There are indications that the JD(S) high command is moving forward with party organization by sidelining GTD. The disappearance of his photos from party flexes and banners is a testament to this.
A Hint of Rebellion?: Observers wonder if he is sending a message about being ignored by the party while simultaneously signaling a potential independent run or a shift in strategy by saying he will follow the "voters' decision."
It remains to be seen whether the JD(S) camp will retain GTD or opt for a new face as hinted by the current cold war within the party.
