Raichur: The scorching sun-baked district of Raichur has been hit hard by unseasonal rain and severe hailstorms, creating widespread disaster for farmers.
In Devadurga taluk, particularly in Paratapur and surrounding villages, heavy hail accompanied by rain has completely destroyed crops valued in lakhs of rupees. Paddy (rice), jowar (sorghum), sajje (pearl millet), chilli, and other standing crops have suffered massive damage.
Crops that farmers had painstakingly nurtured for the past three to four months now at harvest stage were ruined overnight. Ready-to-harvest paddy stacks and jowar fields were battered by hailstones, flattening them and rendering them useless.
