Social Welfare Officer Ends Life in Office Alleging Harassment by Superior

The deceased has been identified as Mallikarjun, the Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Department in Pavagada.

Pavagada: In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the district, a Taluk Social Welfare Officer ended his life within his office premises in Pavagada town, Tumakuru, allegedly due to harassment by a senior official.

The deceased has been identified as Mallikarjun, the Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Department in Pavagada. Before taking the extreme step, he recorded a heart-wrenching selfie video revealing the names of those responsible for his death.

Details of the Incident

Mallikarjun, a native of Gundarlahalli in Pavagada Taluk, had been serving as the Assistant Director in Pavagada for some time. On the day of the incident, he was found to have died by suicide (hanging) inside the Social Welfare Department office.

What the Selfie Video Reveals

In the video recorded moments before his death, Mallikarjun expressed his deep anguish:

Allegations Against Joint Director: Mallikarjun leveled serious allegations against the Joint Director (JD) of the Social Welfare Department, Krishnappa. "JD Krishnappa is directly responsible for my death. He has troubled me immensely, and it is because of his constant harassment that I have taken this decision," he stated.

Remembering Family: Getting emotional in the video, he mentioned, "My mother, wife, and children have looked after me very well. However, I can no longer bear the work pressure and the harassment from my superior."

Cry for Justice: "God and the law will surely punish Krishnappa for the trouble he has caused me," Mallikarjun added in the recording.

Police Investigation

Upon receiving the information, the Pavagada police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Mallikarjun's body has been shifted for post-mortem examination. The police are currently recording statements from office staff and family members. The selfie video has been taken as a key piece of evidence, and further legal action is being initiated.

The death of an officer within the office premises has caused a stir within the department. Local residents and colleagues have demanded strict action against the accused superior officer.
