Koppal: The proverb "You reap what you sow" has come literally true in this man’s case. A thief, who thought he could live a life of luxury by stealing temple treasure, found himself haunted by what he believes is a divine curse and a crushing sense of guilt. After a long struggle between life and death and finding no peace, he finally surrendered to the police in tears.

The Incident at Mavina Itagi

Two years ago, a treasure heist took place at the famous Somashankaralingeshwara Temple in Mavina Itagi village, Kushtagi taluk of Koppal district. Lured by the prospect of finding a hundred gold coins and silver bracelets, a gang of four criminals had dug up the temple premises to loot the hidden treasure. Among them was Maulasab Mujawar (45), a resident of Ilkal town who earned his living running a puncture shop.

Misery Began After the Theft

Life became a nightmare for Maulasab after looting the treasure. His home was plagued by constant illness and a total lack of peace. To make matters worse, his own accomplices cheated him, and he didn't even receive his fair share of the loot. "I didn't get the stolen goods, nor did I get any peace," the accused wailed before the police.

Heart Surgery and the Fear of Death

Recently, Maulasab developed a heart ailment and underwent surgery. Since then, a constant fear of death has gripped him. The guilt that "God is punishing me for touching the temple treasure" haunted him day and night. Seeing no other way to escape this 'divine wrath,' he walked into the Kushtagi police station on his own.

The Accused’s Plea:

"Life has been a mess since the treasure was stolen, There is no happiness at home; someone is always falling sick. My partners cheated me, and now I see death before my eyes."

Police Investigation Intensifies

Based on the information provided by Maulasab, the police have now intensified the investigation into the case. They are probing the identities of the other three accomplices and the current location of the stolen gold coins. For now, the story of this 'repentant' thief has created a sensation across the entire district.
