Chikkamagaluru: A case involving minor lovers from different communities in Mudigere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district has taken the turn of 'Love Jihad' and reached the police station. Separate cases have been registered against the minor youth and against Hindu organization activists for alleged assault.

What Happened?

A PUC student from the Muslim community and an SSLC student from the Hindu community, both residents of Bilagola village in Mudigere taluk, were reportedly in a relationship. As both are minors, the revelation of their affair has caused a stir locally. Hindu organization activists, who have labeled this as 'Love Jihad,' allegedly confronted the minor boy to "teach him a lesson."

Complaint and Counter-Complaint Registered

The case has now turned into a legal battle, with complaints filed by both sides:

Complaint Against Hindu Activists: The minor Muslim youth filed a complaint at the Mudigere Police Station, alleging that activists from a Hindu organization assaulted him. Based on this, the police have registered an FIR against three activists.

POCSO Case Against the Minor Youth: On the other hand, following a complaint filed by the girl’s father, the police have registered a case against the Muslim youth. Since the girl is a minor, a case has been booked under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

Tense Atmosphere

Following the incident, debates for and against the matter have surfaced in Bilagola and Mudigere areas, making the situation sensitive. Mudigere police have intensified the investigation and are taking precautionary measures to ensure no untoward incidents occur.
