Shock for Motorists: State Highway Toll Rates to Rise from April 1! How Much Will It Cost You? Full Details Here

With travel costs becoming more expensive right at the start of the new year, this move is guaranteed to be a financial burden for the general public and freight transporters alike.

Bengaluru: Vehicle owners in the state are set to feel the heat of price hikes at the very start of the new financial year. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to increase toll fees on major national highways across the state by 3% to 5%. These new rates will come into effect from April 1, 2026. As per every year, the price revision is being conducted based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI). An official order regarding this is expected within the next two days.

How Much is the Increase?

Depending on the category of the vehicle, the toll fee will increase by a minimum of ₹5 to a maximum of ₹30.

Light Motor Vehicles (Cars, Jeeps): While there won't be much difference at the Bagepalli or Airport toll plazas, tolls at Kaniminike and Gananguru on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway will increase by ₹5 per trip.

Heavy Vehicles: Mini-buses, trucks, and multi-axle vehicles will face a hike ranging from ₹5 to ₹30.

Hike in Monthly Pass Rates

It’s not just daily commuters; those who opt for monthly passes will also bear the brunt of the hike.

The current monthly pass rate of ₹3,000 will increase to ₹3,075 starting April 1.

Note: This monthly pass is limited to only 200 toll crossings. If you exceed 200 crossings, additional toll charges will apply as the pass will be considered exhausted.

Which Highways are Affected?

The price hike will apply to 9 major national highways in the state, including:

Bengaluru-Mysuru (NH 275)

Bengaluru-Hyderabad (NH 44)

Bengaluru-Tumakuru-Belagavi (NH 48)

Bengaluru-Hassan-Mangaluru (NH 75)

Mangaluru-Udupi-Kundapura (NH 66)

Vijayapura-Chitradurga (NH 50/52)

What is the Reason for the Hike?

As per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, fees are revised every year at the start of the financial year in line with inflation. The rise in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is the primary reason for this year's hike. With travel costs becoming more expensive right at the start of the new year, this move is guaranteed to be a financial burden for the general public and freight transporters alike.
