Vijayapura: The Vijayapura district police have successfully busted an inter-district gang of thieves that had been terrorizing the public with a series of thefts and robberies over the last two years. In a massive operation led by District Superintendent of Police (SP) Laksman Nimbargi, 42 accused were arrested, and property worth over ₹1.20 crore was recovered from them.
Police Unravel Over 20 Cases
Taking the various robbery and serial theft cases reported within the Indi sub-division seriously, the police had formed special teams to conduct an investigation. Preliminary probes have revealed that these 42 accused were involved in more than 20 cases registered between 2024 and 2026.
Jewelry and Vehicles Worth ₹1.20 Crore Seized
During the operation, the police seized assets totaling ₹1,20,04,750. This includes not only cash and gold jewelry but also heavy vehicles used for or obtained through these crimes.
Seized Vehicles: JCB, pickup van, Scorpio cars, tractors, and motorcycles.
Other Items: A massive quantity of gold and silver jewelry, along with water pump sets, were confiscated.
Major Cases Cracked
The arrested individuals were involved in crimes across various locations in the district:
Chadchan Temple: A theft case reported at a local temple in Chadchan.
Alamel Finance: A cash robbery that took place at a private finance firm in Alamel.
Horti Robbery: A highway robbery case within the Horti police station limits, where a truck was intercepted and the driver was threatened.

Providing details at a press conference, District SP Laksman Nimbargi said, "Our team has worked day and night to maintain law and order and prevent thefts in the district. The work done by the Indi sub-division team is commendable." The police officers and staff involved in this successful operation have received high praise for their efforts.
