Bengaluru: The state government has addressed the concerns of parents regarding the age limit for school admissions. The Education Department has decided to provide a 60-day (2-month) exemption from the mandatory 6-year age requirement for children seeking admission to Class 1.
Admission Open for Children Aged 5 Years and 10 Months
Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa shared this crucial information in the Legislative Assembly while replying to a question raised by MLA Arvind Bellad. "Previously, it was mandatory for a child to have completed 6 years of age to join Class 1. This was causing difficulties for thousands of parents. Honoring their requests, we are now allowing children who have completed 5 years and 10 months of age to enroll in Class 1," he clarified.
Amendment to the Karnataka Education Act
The government is set to amend the Karnataka Education Act to implement this change. The Minister assured that necessary updates will be made not just in the law but also in the department's admission software to facilitate the process.
Solution for LKG, UKG Admission Confusion
The government has also taken note of the age-related hurdles in LKG and UKG admissions. It was informed in the House that these issues would also be reviewed and the necessary changes would be implemented.
Official Order Soon
MLA Arvind Bellad requested that this should not be a one-time exemption for a single year but should be enacted as a permanent law. Responding to this, Madhu Bangarappa stated that an official order from the department would be issued shortly. This decision by the government has brought significant relief to lakhs of parents across the state.
