Chitradurga: In a deeply tragic incident reported from Holalkere in Chitradurga district, a 23-year-old BAMS (Ayurveda medical) student ended her life, allegedly distraught over false rumors linking her romantically with a college professor. The deceased has been identified as Nikhita, a resident of Basava Layout in Holalkere. She was reportedly studying at an Ayurvedic medical college in Malladihalli. For the past few days, miscreants had allegedly been spreading fake news on social media and in public, connecting her name with a professor.

Suicide Note Exposes the Harassment

A death note written by Nikhita before she took the extreme step has been recovered, in which she has named those responsible for her death in detail.

Character Assassination: Fake news damaging her character was spread in public and on social media platforms, falsely linking her with a college professor named Raju.

Mental Harassment: Nikhita reportedly stated in her note that Professor Raju, his wife, and a few of her female classmates were subjecting her to continuous mental torture and harassment. It is understood she mentioned being pushed to take this extreme step because of this severe mental distress.

Case Registered; Police Investigation Underway

The Holalkere police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Based on a complaint filed by the deceased student’s parents, the police have registered a case against Professor Raju, his wife, and others under charges of abetment to suicide. An active investigation is currently underway.
