Bengaluru: The preliminary operations for the highly anticipated "National Census 2027" have officially picked up pace in the city. The door-to-door housing and house-listing census operations will begin across the city on April 16, Greater Bengaluru Area (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao announced. Along with this, he has issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against staff who fail to report for the census duty.
Massive Survey from April 16 to May 15
The housing and house-listing census operation will be conducted in the city for a month, from April 16 to May 15. A total of 4,678 enumerators and 798 supervisors have been appointed for this massive survey.
Not Just Suspension, Criminal Cases Await Absentees!
In connection with this survey, training camps are being conducted at 16 different centers across the city from April 6 to April 8. The designated staff have been ordered to compulsorily attend this training. If anyone remains absent or neglects their duty, they will face severe legal consequences. A criminal case will be registered against them under Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948. There is also a provision to register an FIR and take action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
In addition to this, the corporation has taken a strict decision to immediately suspend staff showing misconduct or disobedience from service and initiate disciplinary action. The administration is fully prepared to conduct this census operation of national importance with the utmost accuracy and strictness.
