A major explosion involving fuel tankers near the iconic Bridge of the Americas at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal has left one person dead, four injured, and one missing, authorities confirmed.

The tragic incident occurred on April 6, 2026, in the La Boca area of Balboa, western Panama City. A fire broke out at a fuel depot while tanker trucks were being refuelled.
