The Islamabad Accord negotiations have placed Lebanon in an unwarranted and central position, as the country finds itself at the intersection of US-Iran diplomacy and ongoing Israeli military operations. Beirut has expressed a desire to avoid being victimised as a bargaining chip in the broader U.S.-Iran deal. While Islamabad talks were ongoing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized direct negotiations with the Lebanese government for a peace agreement and the demilitarization of Hezbollah, explicitly excluding Hezbollah from these specific talks.

A major dispute exists regarding whether Lebanon was included in the temporary ceasefire. The U.S. and Israel maintain that Lebanon was not included. Hezbollah leadership has recently urged the Lebanese government to pull out of any talks with Israel, framing them as a betrayal.

 Iran's state-run news agency reported that the Islamabad talks only began after certain preconditions were met, including a reduction in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon. Lebanon’s Culture Minister Ghassan Salame, has expressed that dismantling Hezbollah is time consuming and Hezbollah has not given any official statement so far.
