RAMANAGARA: Today marks a significant milestone for the highly anticipated 'Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township' (GBIT) project, set to come up near Bidadi. In the state cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 16, there is a strong possibility of approval for the final notification of the land acquisition process.
Project Background and Scale
The massive project, implemented by the Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBDA), has identified a total of 7,881 acres of land across nine villages in the Bidadi Hobli.
Identified Villages: Byramangala, Bannigiri, Hosuru, Vaderahalli, Kanchugaranahalli, Kempaiyanapalya, K.G. Gollarapalya, Mandalahalli, and Aralasusandra.
Preliminary Notification: The preliminary notification for land acquisition was originally issued on March 12, 2025.
Why is the Final Notification Crucial?
According to land acquisition laws, a final notification must be issued within one year of the preliminary notification. Due to administrative and technical reasons, the government had previously extended this deadline until 2027. However, to fast-track the project, the government is now aiming to secure approval in today's cabinet meeting.
Key Highlights:
Compensation Package: Magadi MLA H.C. Balakrishna stated that a maximum compensation of ₹2.60 crore per acre has been decided, and approximately 70% of the farmers have already consented to this.
Reason for Delay: The process faced slight delays due to the massive scale of the project, involving over 10,450 land survey (Hissa) numbers and technical hurdles in the Joint Measurement Certificate (JMC) work.
Farmers' Stance: While many have agreed, some farmers are awaiting a higher compensation package and a share in the developed residential or commercial plots.
"We are fully confident that the final notification will be approved in today's cabinet meeting. Once approved, the official notification will be published within three to four days, and all preparations are in place for the distribution of compensation funds."
— Ganakal Nataraju, Chairman, Greater Bengaluru Development Authority
What Lies Ahead?
If the cabinet grants approval today, the final notification will be released within the next few days. This will provide a massive boost to infrastructure and real estate development in Bidadi and its surrounding areas. This multi-thousand-crore project aims to significantly decongest the city of Bengaluru.
