Bengaluru: One8 Commune, the prestigious restaurant located near the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium and once associated with Team India’s star cricketer Virat Kohli, has now become a thing of the past. Struggling to pay rent and staff salaries, the establishment has completely ceased its operations.
The Restaurant That Faced Kohli's Wrath
Last year, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a notice to the restaurant following allegations of violating fire safety regulations. As this news made national headlines, it caused significant embarrassment to Virat Kohli. Frustrated by the negative publicity, "King Kohli" reportedly issued a stern warning to the restaurant's management.
It is alleged that Kohli gave a direct order: "Remove my brand name 'One8' from the restaurant's name immediately."
Business Plummets After Losing the Brand Name
The restaurant, which was thriving primarily on the strength of Virat Kohli’s name, saw a massive drop in footfall as soon as the 'One8' branding was removed. This had a direct impact on the revenue. The losses mounted to such an extent that the owners were unable to pay the monthly building rent or meet regular maintenance expenses.
Legal Battle Reaches Court
Due to non-payment of rent, the building owner filed a lawsuit against the restaurant management. Based on court orders, the restaurant was previously ordered to close. Although the management later obtained a stay order against this, they are currently not in a position to resume operations.
An Uncertain Future
Once the brand value was lost, the restaurant found it impossible to recover. According to current reports, the interiors of the restaurant lie deserted. Caught between legal battles and a severe financial crisis, there are no signs of this business reopening anytime soon.
