Karnataka SSLC Board Error: Visually Impaired Girl Scored 84% but Marked 'Failed' Due to Wrong Attendance Record

Accordingly, Leesa had appeared for all her scheduled examinations. However, when the results were announced, she was marked ‘Absent’ for the Social Science paper, despite having physically attended the exam.

SIRSI: A visually impaired student has been pushed into a state of distress due to the sheer negligence of the SSLC Examination Board. Despite attending all exams and securing excellent marks, the student was marked ‘failed’ after being erroneously recorded as absent for one subject. This incident occurred at the Union Urdu High School in Indira Nagar, Sirsi, Uttara Kannada district.

Details of the Incident

Leesa Khanum, a student of Union Urdu High School, is the victim of this administrative lapse. As a visually impaired student, she was granted subject exemptions as per regulations. She was permitted to attempt Political Science and Economics in place of Mathematics and Science. Accordingly, Leesa had appeared for all her scheduled examinations. However, when the results were announced, she was marked ‘Absent’ for the Social Science paper, despite having physically attended the exam.

Failed Despite Scoring 84.16%

Leesa Khanum’s impressive scores are as follows:

Kannada: 100

English: 92

Economics: 98

Political Science: 92

Total Marks: 526

Percentage: 84.16%

Despite these stellar marks, Leesa has technically failed because the board marked her absent for Social Science. This blunder by the board has dealt a heavy blow to a student who overcame the challenges of blindness to study and excel.

A Heartbreaking Plea

"I have written all my exams. Despite my visual impairment, I worked extremely hard by listening to lessons and preparing thoroughly. Being marked absent and failed after all that effort is deeply painful," said a tearful Leesa Khanum.

Demand for Correction

The school management and her parents have already submitted all supporting documents to the Education Department. They have demanded that the Examination Authority immediately rectify the error and provide justice to the student. Public sentiment is strong that the board should not play with the future of such a talented student.
