Bengaluru: Amidst the traffic woes of the Silicon City, the state government and the Transport Department have delivered fantastic news for passengers relying on public transport. From now on, there will be no need for separate tickets or cards to travel on BMTC buses and Namma Metro. The "One Card, Two Journeys" facility is set to become available to the public starting this June.
Smart Card Distribution by June
Preparations are in full swing to officially distribute the 'Common Smart Cards' compatible with both Metro and BMTC by June. Through this, passengers can recharge this card just like a Metro smart card and use it seamlessly across both modes of transport.
New Electronic Ticket Machines (ETM) Arrival
To implement this new system, BMTC conductors will be equipped with new-model ticket machines. These machines will feature the facility to swipe smart cards. These machines will soon be distributed to all depots, and conductors will be provided with the necessary training to operate them.
A Check on Corruption!
Recently, cases of corruption and illegalities occurring during money transfers via QR codes had become a major headache for the Transport Department. Officials stated that the use of these new Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETM) will bring transparency to financial transactions and help prevent such irregularities.
Highlights of the New System:
Unified Travel: Commuting in BMTC buses is now possible just like the Metro card system.
Time-Saving: No more hassle of waiting in lines for tickets or searching for loose change.
Transparency: An end to ticketing scams thanks to digital payments.
Swipe Facility: Easy card swiping via the new machines held by conductors.
This initiative is set to be a significant milestone in the history of Bengaluru’s transportation, making the daily commute of the common man much smoother.
