"Is it for Firewood?" Actor Jaggesh Slams Forest Dept Over 'Massacre' of Trees in Malleswaram

Actor Jaggesh's post has created a massive stir on social media, with environmentalists and fans coming out in strong support of his stand.

Bengaluru: The reputation of Silicon City as a "Garden City" is facing a severe blow due to the ongoing "massacre" of trees. Senior actor Jaggesh has expressed deep resentment over the felling of trees for development or trivial reasons. In a series of posts on his 'X' (formerly Twitter) account, he severely criticized the functioning of the Forest Department.

Is the Greenery of Kadu Malleswaram Under Threat?

"The name of our locality is Kadu Malleswaram, which literally means a beautiful area lined with trees. However, today, the Forest Department is mercilessly cutting down sky-high trees citing trivial reasons," Jaggesh stated with concern.

Axes Fall for Petty Complaints

Lashing out at the justifications provided for felling trees, the 'Navarasa Nayaka' questioned the logic of removing entire trees based on minor complaints from residents:

Parking Space: Trees are being cut just to make room for parking cars.

Maintenance Issues: Vital greenery is being sacrificed over complaints of falling leaves or the presence of caterpillars.

Sunlight Concerns: He expressed outrage that if someone petitions that their house isn't receiving enough sunlight, the department simply chops down the tree.

Is the Rise in Firewood Prices the Real Reason?

Jaggesh raised a serious suspicion in his post, asking, "The price of firewood has increased recently. Is that the reason why these beautiful trees are being targeted?" He further revealed that nine massive trees were cut down right in front of him. He also mentioned that an attempt was made to axe 150 trees he has nurtured for 25 years, but he managed to save them by protesting.

An Appeal to the Forest Department

"I request the Forest Department to identify only truly dangerous trees and order the pruning of branches alone. But here, the staff who show up remove the entire tree instead of just the branches. Focus on saving the existing trees first," he urged the government and officials. Actor Jaggesh's post has created a massive stir on social media, with environmentalists and fans coming out in strong support of his stand.
