The shop, which is a favourite for bibliophiles in the city, suffered an "immeasurable" loss after floodwaters surged into the premises within minutes. Around 4,000 and 5,000 books were destroyed. The damaged collection includes history, philosophy, biographies, and rare comics.
While the shop is located at the bottom of an inclined driveway, it usually drains well. However, the sheer volume of hailstones during this storm blocked the drainage outlets, causing rainwater to back up and gush into the store.

Proprietor Krishna Gowda noted that while some books might be recovered by drying them in the sun, many modern books, printed on recycled paper cannot endure water damage.
