The Jammu and Kashmir Cyber Police have registered an FIR against Iltija Mufti, of People's Democratic Party  

The case (FIR No. 11) was registered on Thursday, April 30, at the Cyber Police Station in Srinagar under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

On Wednesday, April 29, Iltija posted an undated video of the Pakistani agent Geelani emphasizing the importance of the Urdu language. In the clip, Geelani argues that much of the region's religious and cultural literature is preserved in Urdu and suggests that efforts are being made to destabilize the language.

 She shared the clip as part of a PDP protest against the Omar Abdullah government’s recent decision to remove Urdu as a mandatory qualification for recruitment in the state’s Revenue Department. Authorities stated the FIR was filed based on "credible inputs" regarding the dissemination of content promoting separatist ideology and propagating false information with the intent to incite activities "prejudicial to the peace, sovereignty, and integrity of India." FIR includes, promoting enmity between groups (Section 196(1)), Statements conducing to public mischief (Section 353) and Sedition-equivalent charges under the new BNS framework (Section 152).

The BJP’s media in-charge for Kashmir, Sajid Yousuf Shah, welcomed the FIR, calling it "long overdue" for allegedly spreading hate, while PDP supporters view the move as an attempt to suffocate political dissent regarding the Urdu controversy.
