By winning 108 seats, TVK emerged as ruling party, leaving both DMK and AIADMK with 73 and 53 seats. The most significant element of this election is the defeat of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in his stronghold of Kolathur. Stalin lost to TVK’s V.S. Babu by a margin of 8,795 votes. This is the first time Stalin has lost a seat since 2001 and the first time he has ever lost in Kolathur since its creation in 2008.
