The BJP Era Begins in Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari's Journey from Sting Operation Controversy to the CM's Seat..!

It is a significant irony and a symbol of change in Bengal politics that Suvendu has risen to power in the very presence of Prime Minister Modi, who had once leveled allegations of corruption against him.

Kolkata: A new chapter has been written in the political history of West Bengal today. Suvendu Adhikari, who was embroiled in the Narada sting scandal a decade ago, has made a massive political comeback by taking the oath as the state's 9th Chief Minister today.

Suvendu Adhikari assumed office during a grand ceremony held today at Kolkata's famous Brigade Parade Ground. In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new CM.

A Decade of Political Shift: 2016 to 2026

Exactly ten years ago, Suvendu Adhikari was a close aide to Mamata Banerjee within the Trinamool Congress. When the Narada sting operation surfaced in 2016, the BJP, then in the opposition, held intense protests against him. However, Suvendu left the TMC to join the BJP in 2020 and has now been elected as the party's first Chief Minister, serving as an example of the political strategy: "the enemy's enemy is a friend".

Highlights of the Election Results:

Massive Majority for BJP: By winning 207 out of a total of 294 assembly constituencies, the BJP has ended Mamata Banerjee's 15-year rule in the state.

Suvendu Defeats Mamata: Competing directly against former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhawanipore constituency, Suvendu Adhikari emerged as a "giant killer" by winning with a margin of over 15,000 votes.

New Cabinet: Along with the Chief Minister, prominent party leaders including Dilip Ghosh and Agnimitra Paul have taken office as ministers.

The "Sonar Bangla" Resolution

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed confidence, stating, "The atmosphere of fear that existed in Bengal for years has now ended. From today, the work for a new era of development, namely the construction of 'Sonar Bangla,' has begun".

It is a significant irony and a symbol of change in Bengal politics that Suvendu has risen to power in the very presence of Prime Minister Modi, who had once leveled allegations of corruption against him.
