He became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta at the age of 33 and he was a staunch advocate for educational reform and the preservation of Bengali culture and language within the academic framework.

In 1951, with the help of the RSS, he founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the ideological predecessor to today’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). That’s how BJP came to being.
