Bengaluru Heatwave Alert: Snakes Found Hiding in Shoes and Homes..!

Residents living near green zones and storm-water drains (Rajakaluve) in Bengaluru need to exercise extra caution during this time.

Bengaluru: The temperature in the Silicon City is rising day by day, and people are struggling under the scorching heat. It is not just humans; animals and birds are also searching for cool spots. Due to the inability to bear the extreme temperatures, venomous snakes are now heading towards residential homes in search of cool shelter.

Snakes Emerging in Search of Coolness!

Typically, snakes live in burrows. However, when the underground temperature increases, they emerge and are attracted to cooler areas. Not only in neighborhoods adjacent to forest areas but even within the compounds of crowded apartments in Bengaluru, Cobras, Rat Snakes, and dangerous Russell's Vipers are making an entry.

Keep an Eye on These Areas in Your Home:

Snakes often hide in the following cool spots:

Kitchen and Backyard: Snakes may hide near water pipes or in cool corners.

Shoe and Slipper Stands: Since the inside of closed shoes or slippers remains cool, snakes may be found coiled up inside them.

Flower Pots: Because plants are watered, snakes often reside under the pots or among the plants.

Warning Issued by Snake Mohan:

As snake sightings are being reported across the city, the BBMP Forest Cell (GBA) is receiving a flood of calls daily. Renowned snake rescuer Snake Mohan is rescuing eight to ten snakes every day from various parts of the city and safely releasing them back into the forest.

His key suggestions are as follows:

It is mandatory to thoroughly shake or inspect shoes and slippers before wearing them early in the morning.

Do not pile up dry waste, sticks, or old items around the house. Do not panic if a snake is spotted, and do not attempt to attack it. Immediately call a skilled snake rescuer. Residents living near green zones and storm-water drains (Rajakaluve) in Bengaluru need to exercise extra caution during this time.
